Sapp Bros. donates truck to MPCC CDL program
A growing need of commercial drivers in the area has led to a donation of a 2014 Freightliner from Sapp Bros. to assist the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program at Mid-Plains Community College.
The recent donation will enable students to spend more time behind the wheel learning the necessary skills. Josh Young, MPCC Motor School Program Coordinator, said this donation will also allow us to expand the capacity of the program.
“Having more time to back-up and practice skills on public roads is crucial,” said Young. “Through this generous donation we could look at doubling the class size.”
The partnership with Sapp Bros. is strong as seven students who successfully completed the CDL program are employed within the company.
“MPCC has a very knowledgeable staff.” said Dan Van Zee the Sapp Bros. Operations Manager for Ogallala, Cheyenne and Denver. “They drill in the importance of a pre-trip and safety.”
“We hope to have a lot more Sapp Bros. employees come through the program,” stated Van Zee. “The hands-on one-on-one experience makes all the difference.”
The next CDL class offered at MPCC begins in North Platte on September 23, 2024. Gap funding may be available for those who qualify. For more information contact Jeff Smeltzer at 308-535-3687.
