Lunn and Higa ride away with gold buckles at Blue Hawk Stampede
Dickinson, N.D. – Jackson Lunn and Eli Higa led the Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team at the Blue Hawk Stampede in Dickinson, N.D. last weekend.
The men’s team finished second in the team standings, while the women’s team closed out the rodeo with a third-place finish.
Higa, of Honokaʻa, Hawaii, was named the reserve champion by grabbing the top spot in the bull riding event and a third-place finish alongside Kahiwa Augustiro in the team roping category.
Lunn, of Whitecourt, Alberta, continues his dominance in the bareback riding event with a fourth straight first-place finish. Lunn has claimed the top spot in the event at each rodeo to begin the 2024-25 season.
Laynee Ohm notched the reserve all-around cowgirl title after claiming the top spot in the first round of goat tying and placing fourth in the breakaway event.
Cinch Painter finished second in the average after claiming the top spot in the first round in steer wrestling. Jace Richter and Ryan Shepherd placed fifth in the team roping event, while teammates Tucker Even and Ryatt Fraser notched a seventh-place finish.
The MPCC Rodeo Team will be back in action this weekend for the Iowa Central Community College Rodeo in Fort Dodge, Iowa beginning on Oct. 4.
