MPCC to offer Taylor Swift poetry classes
Fans of musical artist Taylor Swift will have the opportunity to learn more about poetry by studying her songs.
Mid-Plains Community College’s Business and Community Education department will host “Taylor Swift: Poetry in Lyrics” classes for ages 13 and older at all of its campuses. Seats are expected to fill up fast.
Attendees will analyze lyrics of Swift’s songs through a variety of critical lenses while learning the basics of literary theory and analysis. They will then write their own poetry inspired by Swift’s subject matter and style.
“This will be a fun, interactive class for people who love music, poetry and Taylor Swift,” said English instructor Jessie Allen, who will teach the classes on-site at each campus. “Those who bring a friend will receive a BFF discount.”
Classes are scheduled for the following dates and locations:
May 21 - Room 205, W.W. Wood Building, North Platte North Campus
May 22 – MPCC Ogallala Campus
May 29 – MPCC Valentine Campus
June 6 – MPCC Broken Bow Campus
June 11 – Room 213, McMillen Hall, McCook Campus
