Used MPCC books will benefit literacy initiatives around the world
Mid-Plains Community College students and employees box up books Thursday at MPCC’s Learning Commons in North Platte.
The college is sending approximately 6,000 books from the library to Better World Books. About 6,000 more will be sent from the college’s Learning Commons in McCook.
According to its website, Better World Books is a for-profit social enterprise that collects and sells books online to fund literacy initiatives worldwide.
A portion of the revenue from the sale of MPCC’s books will go back to the college and some of it will go to support literacy, libraries and education. Books that cannot be sold are typically donated to at-risk communities in the U.S. or recycled.
