Ready-to-Work Building Construction is a non-credit program aimed at providing high school students with real-world building construction skills that will enable them to gain employment in entry-level positions. In addition, the program includes extensive safety training, résumés and interview skill building.
Four Ogallala High School students were selected to participate in the inaugural program.
Funding for the pilot program came from Mid-Plains Community College and the Nebraska Investment Finance Authority Teaching Nebraska Trades Program. Teaching Nebraska Trades is designed to encourage students to enter the construction trades and motivate them to seek out training at the community college level.
The program’s local and regional sponsors include Unit 24 Welding and Construction, Michael J. McQuillan, Ogallala’s Mead Lumber and First Star Recycling.
