MCC offering several fall art classes for young students
McCook Community College is offering several art classes for students in the third through eighth grades and an October class where a student can pair up with an adult for a quality-time art project.
Upcoming classes include “Creating Works that Shimmer and Shine,” “Totally Tie-Dye,” “Get Jiggly with Gelli Printing,” “Watercolor Leaf Painting,” and "Autumn Themed Canvas Painting for 2.”
Pre-registration is required, so call 345-8122, or check out Mid-Plains Business and Community Education online at BCEregister.mpcc.edu.
“Creating Works that Shimmer and Shine” is set for Sept. 30 from 2-4 p.m. and will give third through eighth graders the chance to work with aluminum foil to create a shimmery work of art that uses this household icon. Students will explore a basic relief printmaking process as a fun way to decorate the foil using markers and/or glass paint. Deonne Hinz teaches this class and cost is $29.
On Sept. 30 from 2-4 p.m. at “Totally Tie-Dye,” third through seventh graders will create their very own, completely unique, multi-colored T-shirt in one afternoon. Students will transpose a white T-shirt into one filled with intricate color combinations. Step-by-step instructions will be given to create this wearable piece of art. Cost is $15 and the class is led by Kandie McCauley.
“Get Jiggly with Gelli Printing” is scheduled for Oct. 10 from 4:30-6 p.m., also for students in the third through eighth grade. This class is a fun approach to a printmaking process that uses a wiggly Gelli printing plate. Students can create many fun art-themed projects with this inventive printing process. Cost is $29 with Hinz instructing.
“Watercolor Leaf Painting” is for those six and older on Oct. 21 from 2-4 p.m. Students begin with a leaf hunt around the MCC campus (weather permitting) to find the right supplies for their painting, then return to the classroom to work on their individual painting. Cost is $15 with McCauley instructing.
"Autumn Themed Canvas Painting for 2” will be Oct. 28 from 10 a.m.-noon and will offer a collaborative painting opportunity for students and adults. Those attending the class will collaborate to create an autumn-themed canvas painting or create individual pieces with themes of leaves or trees, scarecrows, corn rows, cats or bats or a whimsical landscape or flowers. Led by Hinz, this class is $35.
